2021 WELCOME WEEK SCHEDULE

Welcome Week events are for ALL UNI students. This is your official welcome (back) to campus.

Saturday, August 21

Fitness Class    

9:00 - 10:00 AM     Wellness Recreation Center (WRC)

Join the largest fitness class of the year on campus. It's going to be awesome!

 

Panthers Downtown    

10:00AM - 2:00 PM     Main Street/State Street, campus pick up at Parking Ramp (Multimodal Center)

Explore Historic Downtown Cedar Falls with opportunities for prizes. Get to know the locally owned businesses and farmers market. We will be running a bus loop from campus to Downtown Cedar Falls. Free tote or fanny pack for first 1000 students in attendance. Check in at the River Place Plaza (between Hurts and Urban Pie).

Campus transportation will be provided. Masks are required on the bus. 

  • Pick up location on campus is the parking ramp (Multi-Modal Transportation Center).  On 23rd St across from Lawther Hall. 
  • Busses will return from The Plaza in Downtown Cedar Falls.

UNI Soccer vs Viterbo    

1:00PM     Soccer Field (West of Dome)

Get your game face on as you cheer on the Panthers. Meet at the Campanile at 12:30PM to walk over to the game. Free UNI Soccer scarf for the first 50 students. This is the first game UNI Soccer is hosting on their NEW field on campus. 

 

Paddle on the Pond    

1:00 - 5:00 PM     Pond by Wellness & Recreation Center (WRC) Parking Lot    

Come join the outdoor crew on the North Pond and try out Stand Up Paddle Boards, Kayaks or Canoes.  Also, take a hike through the west trail system.  You might get lucky and see Cranes, Deer and our resident Beavers!

 

Celebrations of Faith

Learn about the celebrations and histories of an array of religious and faith perspectives present in the Cedar Valley. Free food!

Silent Disco

Imagine a dancefloor with half the crowd singing along to Taylor Swift and the other half doing the wobble... and it's all silent! Get your groove on at the silent disco dance party. Two DJs will be playing all your favorites and you can switch between the two on the silent disco headphones for whichever you are feeling.

Gr8 Wellness Scavenger Hunt Begins

Navigate the UNI campus to learn about the 8 dimensions of Wellness and campus resources through our Gr8 Wellness Scavenger Hunt. Pick up a scavenger hunt punch card at the the Student Life Office or your residence hall office during business hours. Punch cards for first year students will also be handed out at the Student Organization Fair on August 19. Drop off your completed punch card to the Student Life Office by 4pm August 27th.

Dream With ME! is a student driven, devised, multimedia, filmed theatrical work about the varied yet related events of 2020 including but not limited to: the pandemic, isolation, race, and power. The piece utilizes genres of storytelling such as Hip Hop Theatre, Documentary Theatre, Theatre of the Oppressed and Theatre for Social Change.

 

Glow the Extra Mile

Panthers, we Glow the Extra Mile in our care for one another, our campus, and our community! Grab your roommate, residence hall floor, student org, group of friends, or come planning to meet someone new while rocking some glowing gear. In support of the Panther community we're requesting food or essential donations from race participants to go to the Panther Pantry. Prizes will be awarded to the fastest participant, most glowing participant, dorm house and student organization with highest number in attendance as a group.

Cedar Valley Pridefest    

Noon - midnight Waterloo     Pick up on capmpus at Gilchrist Hall under Purple awning 

Celebrate the LGBTQ community by attending Cedar Valley Pridefest. There will be a free shuttle running from campus to Waterloo. Tickets are $15 at the gate or online in advance

Campus transportation will be provided. Masks are required on transportation.

Come down to Cadillac lanes for a fun afternoon of cosmic bowling! There will be bussing provided to the event. Sign up as a group or solo bowler so you can meet new friends. Pre registeration not required, but first come first serve. Campus transportation will be provided. Masks are required on transportation.

Orchard Hill Church Outdoor Church & FREE College Lunch!

Join us for an outdoor church service with live music and a message. Stay after for a FREE lunch and games (sloppy joes, hot dogs, chips, fruit, Try Pies, coffee & rice krispie bars.)

 

TK's Kickball Tournament    

Noon - 5:00PM     Intramural Fields, West of the UNI Dome

Sign your team up to participate in the inaugural TK Kickball Tournament. Space is limited to 6 teams. You must have a minimum of 9 players on a team. If you have a team of less than 9 players you can combine with another team, but there is not guarantee there will the right number of players per team. Prizes for first, second and third place.
