Transfer Orientation FAQs

Do I have to attend orientation?

Yes. Orientation is mandatory for all new degree-seeking undergraduate students at UNI, and is the avenue by which you will meet with academic advisors and register for classes. While you may have experience as a student at a different college or university, it is important that you learn about the academic programs and policies unique to the University of Northern Iowa. Orientation is not mandatory for parents or guests, but they are encouraged to attend. We have designed a separate parent and guest program that runs concurrently with the program for students.

May I sign up for on-campus housing during orientation?

Yes. The Department of Residence will be available to assist you with online contracting in Redeker Center from 12:45 - 3:00 p.m. during the Orientation Student Services Fair.

How do I make a reservation for orientation?

Reserve your spot for orientation and registration program here.

Will my family members or guests be with me when I schedule classes?

No. You will meet one-to-one with an academic advisor, and schedule classes with the assistance of orientation staff members. At the conclusion of orientation, advisors will be available as needed to answer family members' questions regarding classes, academic program requirements, and registration.
