Become a Success Coach

The success coaching program is a joint effort between the Office of Undergraduate Studies and Student Success & Retention. The primary purpose of the success coaching program is to support students on academic alert and probation in achieving good academic standing. Coaches do this by addressing students’ academic, involvement, financial, and personal needs. Success coaches also assist with other outreach efforts that address barriers to retention and student success.

Success Coach Duties

  • Provide holistic coaching and support to students on academic alert or probation through in-person meetings, phone calls, and email.

  • Develop thorough understanding of academic standing policy, academic calendar and important dates, and campus resources.

  • Assist with other outreach efforts including calls to students with holds and non-registered students.

  • Attend weekly training to build coaching skills and knowledge.

  • At least one semester of experience supporting other college students in a structured/supervised program (for example, as a resident assistant, FYO/Cornerstone peer mentor, CME mentor, or PAiR).

  • Relationship-building skills.

  • Commitment to diversity and inclusion.

  • Must be an enrolled UNI student in good academic and social standing with the university.
